SOTRAMI

Santa Filomena

The miners work in a hard-rock mine that tunnels into the side of the mountain at about 2’500 meters altitude in the Atacama Desert. The company operates a cyanide leaching plant to process the ore into dore gold.

SOTRAMI’s approach to ethical gold mining combines corporate, social and environmental responsibility: mining activities are carried out with complete respect for the rights of the miners, safe working environments, democratic decision-making procedures, the protection of the environment and, the social development of the community.

SOTRAMI’S BGF PROJECT
SBGA, through the Better Gold Find (BGF), is co-financing with Sotrami the connection of its plant to the national/regional/electrical grid in order to reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions resulting from the use of a diesel generator to produce electricity.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
The connection to the grid will avoid the yearly consumption of 80,000 gallons of diesel. The access to the electrical grid will reduce the CO2 equivalent emissions by 779 tons annually (based on emission factors published by the World Resource Institute).
